How many questions are on the FINRA license exams?
Each FINRA License Exam is a different size. Each exam includes several pretest questions that are not scored. It is generally necessary to achieve a 70% to 75% or greater score on the exam to achieve a PASSING score. Please refer to the below table for details.
For evaluation and security purposes, all FINRA administered exams include some extra questions that are not used in the scoring of the exam. For example, the SERIES 65 exam is 140 questions in length, but only 130 of these items are scored. 94 of the 130 questions must be answered correctly to receive a passing score.
The bottom line is this: FINRA exams are thorough, and require you to demonstrate solid understanding of topics you will need to know to exercise license authority. If you fail, its 30 days before you can retake the exam, and after three attempts its six months between re-takes. So it just makes sense to get the best training you can get for your FINRA exam.
